Home Is Where the Hatred Is

You never know what music from your listening library your children will also fall in love with. I recently added Gil Scott Heron's collection, "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised," to my selection of CDs to listen to on the way to work (after dropping Gigi off at school) and on the way home.

She can't seem to get enough of "Home is Where the Hatred Is" (written by Heron and Brian Jackson). She even looked up the Esther Phillips version (which, for some reason, I've heard more than Heron's version.).

Listen to the Esther Phillips version.

THANK YOU!! I wish that Montro was here to check this out. Gil Scott Heron is one of my favorites. I have been to many of his shows at the collages around Nashville. Thank you again, I am on my way to U-tube.

I can see where he would have loved Gil Scott Heron. I saw him only once in concert in D.C. Of course, he was amazing.

Enjoy!

your daughter really has soul. i had a chance to be at one of gil scot-heron's performances in california. i think of him along with marvin gaye as musical reactionaries. their lyrics are timeless and can reach those who are conscious like your daughter.

You've got that right sista! She's got a lot of soul and some would say she's an old soul. :-) She's got great taste in music and is starting to lean more on the older music. She sees today's music for what it is -- superficial, for the most part.

Yes, Gil Scott-Heron and Marvin Gaye definitely had some reflective lyrics and a lot of their music is timeless. Their art will live on and on.
