Whenever I’m blue (like now) or sometimes even when I’m feeling silly, I sing “Oh No, Don’t Let the Rain Fall Down,” out loud or just in my head. For some reason it makes me feel better. Maybe it’s because I learned the song as a child in music class, along with “Santa Lucia” and Erie Canal (Low Bridge, Everybody Down).
I wish I could find a recorded version of this song and the others. But if you see me and you want to know how these songs sound, especially “Don’t Let the Rain Fall Down,” I’d be happy to sing a little for you.

Yes, it's amazing how many times this song will come back to me. And the Santa Lucia song is beautiful. If I'm not mistaken, I believe the music teacher taught it to us in Italian! Isn't that amazing? Come to think of it, I think she was Italian.

thank you, alicia, for posting the lyrics to that song. i was born in mississippi, but grew up in san diego, and in 1964 my father recorded me and my four siblings singing a version of that song. i play the tape for my daughters, ifa (4yrs) and maya (7yrs), all the time, and now they want to teach their music teacher the song! so, the lyrics will be very helpful--now the young will teach the elders... thank-youthank-youthank-youthanks!

I also grew up with that song - whenever I remember it, it brings back such fond memories. Actually, on "Friends', they were talking about the Crooked man which then me google the song so I could hear it again. When I googled it, your page came up. I sing it to my 6-year-old daughter now sometimes and she thinks it's REALLY silly. She'll often ask me to stop singing it.
